From Deobald
[edit]
Installing Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04) on Dell Latitude D610
- install ubuntu 7.04 from the live CD
- install all updates
[edit]
Installing Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10) on Dell Latitude D610
- install ubuntu 6.10 from the live CD
- install Network Manager
- install eye candy
- use good taste to set sensible defaults
- install from universe and multiverse:
- install flash 9 beta, java, etc.
- ThoughtWorkers: install libmotif3, symlink /bin/sh to bash (Edgy uses dash), and then try your best to get Lotus Notes installed
[edit]
Installing Ubuntu Dapper Drake (6.06 LTS) on Dell Latitude D610
- install ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper) from the installer/live CD
- install Network Manager [1]
- Run: sudo apt-get install network-manager-gnome
- Reboot [2]
- install EasyUbuntu (Yay, France!)
[1] NB: On flaky WPA networks, Network Manager may freak out occasionally. If you lose the blue vertical bar icon, right click the Network Manager icon and disable the network. Re-enable the network and all is well again.
[2] If you have issues after the reboot, see the detailed how-to: http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper#How_to_Configure_Ubuntu.2FKubuntu_with_WPA_using_Network-Manager
I should really make a distributable installer CD for this. I think it would take about an hour.
